Music Video & Music Artist Research

I'm currently trying to decide which music genre to look at for my music video, I have finally narrowed it down to two genres either Pop or Hip Hop. Pop music would be more easier to do because I would be able to choose an artist which costumes would be easy to apply to the genre and the style which the artist goes for. Hip Hop would be another genre I would like to use because they have their own style which they go for in their music videos such as Wiz Khalifa. 

The music genre I have chosen is .....

                                    POP!

Bruno Mars' music videos have many conventions as his style changes. In his music video 'treasure' he sets his music video on a stage performing and his style is in the 1970s era.

In his music video he uses these following features:

• band
• stage
• same costumes
• flashing lights 
• disco ball
• they have the same dance routine

I like this music video because everyone is dressed the same and its very simple and not very complex. However the style of clothing is not the direction which I would like to go in. 

A little bit about Bruno Mars...

Bruno Mars was born on 8th October 1985, he is an american music artist originally from Hawaii. Mars' music has been noted for displaying a wide variety of styles, musical genres and influences, including pop,rock, reggae , R&B, soul, and hip hop.

Rihanna - Umbrella Feat. Jay Z

In this music video it uses the following features..

• props e.g. umbrella
• various costumes - burlesque, dress, silver chrome paint.
• sparks in background but mostly background is plain
• lots of dance routines

I like the effect with the chrome paint while she dances in this music video and I also like the background effect while she's doing the burlesque dance with the umbrella, the background is half sepia and half monochrome.

A little bit about Rihanna...

Rihanna was born 20th February 1988, in Barbados. The genres of music which she is well known for is Pop, R&B, reggae, hip hop and dance.

Other Pop Artists...

Ke$ha

Ke$ha was born on 1st March 1987. She is an american music artist. Ke$ha is well known for behaving badly (drunk)! I do like the makeup which Ke$ha has as it makes her stand out and it makes her more independent as a music artist.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera was born 18th December in 1980. She is an American Music Artist; her music style is mostly pop but she also does some music linking to Dance-pop, electro-pop and R&B.

I like christina's style because its girly and her music video's are very feminine too although there is a reference to 'looking' a lot in her music video's which I would like to stay clear of.

Practice Music Video

Fot the past week we have been given the task to create a music video for prepare ourselves for the real thing and get enough practice and experience in directing and using camerawork effectively in a music video.



For this task me and a friend chose to do 'Whistle by Flo Rida' we thought at the time thast this would be a great music video to do however it turned out to be more comlex than we thought because the setting in the music video is very different to the choice of facilities we have.

We found when selecting the different shots to use in the music video that this song is sexualised and also the bad treatement towards women in the music video.

Overall I enjoyed this mini project because it was fun and we got to dress up and include some of our own versions of the music video!
